trace(s)
april 25-30 2023
the term “trace” as a concept varies in definition depending on context and circumstances. the group exhibition trace(s) addresses the word’s differing aspects simultaneously: to investigate and outline, as well as to demonstrate accumulative states of uncountable measurements of existence.
together, these exhibited bodies of works reveal an accumulation of traces of growth. Within this amass of ideas and identities, each artist contributes their own set of experiences that engage in a collective dialogue.
through curiosity, material explorations, and groupings of experiences, each artist in the BFA graduating class extends the parameters of their practice, the impressions of which are carried throughout this exhibition.
the room that my specific work existed in also existed alongside the work of david bigg and madeleine merritt. as a group ,we curated our own works to merge together in the space.

in my work, i explore and challenge the relationship between fine art and craft, as well as examine the connection between women artists and the textile arts. i do this by sewing, mending, crocheting, deconstructing, repairing, and transforming a variety of fabrics, yarns, plastic materials, and more. i use textiles, assemblage, and knowledge passed to me from other women to stitch and install fabric sculptures that represent femininity, nostalgia, childhood, and womanhood. i am making a fabric collage of materials that not only remind me of my own childhood but also carry memories that influence my transformation from a child to the adult woman i am today. i would like viewers of my work to have an experience that invites them to examine their own memories and why my work might invite those memories to resurface. my work has been interpreted as a colorful, maximalist accumulation of selected materials that are transformed with intention and care.
